About the event

Beyond the Back Step is a comprehensive look at how "Truck" work is done past the essentials book. The class looks at Vertical Ventilation, Forcible Entry, Searches, VEIS and even Technical rescue from a realistic viewpoint and gives insight how to accomplish the task with limited manpower or unconventional assignments. Beyond the Back Step also explores the mindset in which assignments can be done in coordination with the initial attack in a way that gives the victims the best chance for survival.

Brandon Lewis entered the fire service in 2008, joining the Columbus Georgia Fire Department.  In 2012, Brandon left to join Atlanta Fire Rescue, fulfilling his life-long goal of serving in a large metropolitan city.  Brandon is a Lieutenant at Atlanta fire station #14, one of special operations companies within the department. Brandon is an instructor for Fire Life Training,  adjunct instructor Atlanta Fire Academy, and is a state certified instructor with a wide range of teaching experience in both the fire service and the private sector.  His passion and focus are special operations and firefighter survival skills. Brandon takes a practical, fundamental-based approach to instructing, therefore challenging his colleagues to continually refine, improve and engage in their craft. Brandon lives in a South Atlanta suburb with his wife Erin and their children.  In his free time, he coaches boys' basketball, and cheers on the Atlanta Falcons and THE Ohio State Buckeyes.
